Today when I was decorating my Christmas tree, I hung an ornament of a Santa that had Stephen's name and date on the back of it. It was dated 1999, my last year at Marion Carson School teaching grade 6. Stephen was an exceptional individual and talented student who was always willing to help others. When we did a sky science unit, students had a choice of topic and Stephen chose black holes for his oral presentation. He had an experiment to show his peers what he had learned, as well as a video from the library. His understanding and the quality of his presentation blew me away. My two sons also played competitive badminton, so I had several opportunities to watch Stephen in action. His skill level but more importantly his sportsmanship were very special. Stephen was a huge loss at such a young age but he filled his shortened life with phenomenal memories for those of us who knew him and the family and friends who loved him!
