Most people have an endless list of cousins, but for the first 10 years of my life I had just two - Steven & Laura. Steven was my age, so while our older sisters were off playing at family gatherings, Steven & I teamed up to build couch cushion forts, play games (“the floor is lava” was a popular choice), & explore the backyard. He enjoyed freaking me out when he fed Pinky (his corn snake), wowing me with magic tricks, & doing his best to explain his experiments (he did a great job of dumbing them down for me). I remember many occasions when Steven coaxed me in to trying something outside my comfort zone - for better or for worse (like grabbing an electric fence at the Reesor Ranch). His curiosity and adventurous spirit has had a lasting impact on me, & will be greatly missed.
