Steve has a beautiful mind and heart - he always has very interesting thoughts, wants to try new things, and tries to give back. It is always an exciting time to see what he's up to. For instance, along with his friend and co-author James, Steve used squid beaks (found throughout science stores around the US) as material for the 3D printer he made in his then-living room - who knew that squids are so neat and can give off multiple types of ink (and also, a very pungent smell)! With Steve, I learned to look at the world through fresh and curious eyes, something I'll carry with me forever.
Steve is also extremely resilient and someone who always thinks about giving back to society. I still remember that merely a week after surgery, he was back full time at work, trying to expand the horizons of science and additive manufacturing. Within a few months after that, he finished authoring an entire chapter on additive manufacturing in an O'Reilly book. That's Steve for ya.
