I had the extreme pleasure of meeting and briefly living with Steve during his time at MIT - and got the privilege of living nearby again on the left coast. I think the first time I met Steve was at a party, thrown by his future housemates, and the second time I met him was out at a club. Looking back on my email, though, the very first exchange we had was about 3D printing with silk and setting up a DIY biology lab. So, in typical Steve style, I think we pretty seamlessly drifted between partying and nerding, probably having an equally good time in each scenario. Steve was so unique - burning holes in the walls with lasers and finding airleaks in the house with his heat-sensing iphone camera, while at the same time always putting others first, and making you feel like the extraordinary one! His insatiable curiosity, his deeply kind and loving nature, and his fundamental love of life were and are truly unmatched - Steve was a true original and I feel so lucky to have caught a glimpse of the universe lit by Steve's light.
