In 2014, I met up with Steve at a bar near MIT a few months after I made the move to Boston. After catching up and exchanging news of our friends from university, he suddenly brightened:
"Oh, I got something for ya!" He reached in his pocket and pulled out a small object.
Me: "It's a--"
-"Rabbit!" Steve laughed his trademark bellowing laugh that I can still hear. "I printed it before coming here."
Me "Wait, what, you 'printed' it?"
Steve laughed again.
-"Yep, in our 3-D printing lab!" He tossed the rabbit in his hand then perched it in front of my drink. "This is an Up+-2 Printed Stanford Bunny."
This time I burst out laughing, taking in-hand my special gift that couldn't have been a better representation of the trifecta that was Steve Keating : brilliant, humorous, and kind beyond belief.
