I am so fortunate to be able to call Steve one of my best friends. While everyone knows Steve for how curious and intelligent he was, I will always remember Steve for how loyal and kind he was as a friend. Regardless of all the crazy things he had going on in his life, or what new inventive ideas he was working on he would always make time for me, and I will forever miss having him in my life. I am so thankful to have been a part of his, one in which he jammed more into in 31 years than any of us hope to do in our lifetimes.
I was lucky enough to fly to Honduras to meet Steve for 48 hours last September. We went down to 2,100 feet together but before we did, Steve thought it would be a great opportunity to field test his pressure / temperature sensor that he designed to go down to Marianas trench, just as a small side project that he had worked on. So while I began to contemplate the safety concerns I had with going to the depths of the ocean in a non-insured, home made submarine, Steve filled a Tupperware container with his sensor, and a non-conductive/low compressibility fluid and we strapped it to the side of the submarine (using a number of zip ties he conveniently brought along), and off we went. When we surfaced several hours later, Steve rushed it back to the AirBnB to test it and lo and behold, we had not died AND the field test was a success!
What a great friend you were to me Steve, I will miss your loyalty and zest for life forever.
