One of my fondest memories of Steven happened after hours when we were the last two in our lab trying to get something to happen that probably had never happened before. We were working on an experimental piece of equipment that I had some experience with and Steven less than myself.
We were getting close to achieving our goals when a part of the machine broke down that neither one of us had any experience with nor could recollect what it looked like before it broke.
I can remember him saying as a smile crept across his face, "neither one of us knows how to fix it...so...you wanna try and fix it? After seeing that infectious mix of curiosity and mischievousness creep of over his face my reply was something to the effect of, "Hell yeah!".
An hour later after much laughing over our shared initial ignorance, we had fixed the machine, met the goals for the day and more importantly had taught ourselves about an area that was so much deeper than a cursory demonstration would have provided.
When I think of Steven the two words that come to mind are, fearless curiosity.
